The lake really had been magic. Avery and Jake had been walking along the edge when Avery slipped and fell in. Jake dived in to rescue her and pull her to shore, only to find himself suddenly half drowned, with long blonde hair covering his face and waterlogged clothes clinging to a supple form.
They managed to get to shore and returned to their cabin, shivering as they made a fire and tried to get warm. Jake wrapped his body in a blanket from the closet and sat cross-legged in his new form as he thawed.
