\u201cHow long have you been pretending to be Connor?\u201d Ethan asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He cradled his broken arm as Maya advanced on him. She laughed scornfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEver since that day I followed him down here to the quarry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya transformed suddenly, turning into Connor. The new Connor flexed his fingers. \u201cBeing meek got me nowhere. Connor was an asshole and a bully. But he took what he wanted. Something I wanted you<\/em> to do, Ethan. The only thing you were missing in order to be perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real Connor drew back, closer to Ethan as the fake Connor stopped and grinned at the two of them. \u201cLook at you both. Fearful. You know you can take the best part of people when you become them. I took Connor\u2019s dominance. It\u2019s so addictive. Try it, Ethan. Try not being a pussy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He transformed back into Maya. \u201cConnor was scared of me, and rightfully so. And now I\u2019ve got his bravado, nothing can stop me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHow?\u201d Ethan asked, trying to keep distance between himself and Maya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She laughed again. \u201cHow? Men are so easy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEthan, don\u2019t listen to her. Run,\u201d the real Connor urged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya lunged forward and grabbed real Connor\u2019s arm. \u201cShut up, you fat pig.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya transformed Connor suddenly. His body ballooned out to monstrous proportions, flab spilling over a huge belt. Thick breasts fell down an enormous stomach. Stringy black hair sprouted from a head that grew soft with fat. In less than a heartbeat, the real Connor had become a morbidly obese woman. She sat down with an \u2018oof\u2019 legs unable to support her tremendous new body weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then Maya turned to Ethan and told him what she\u2019d done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethan had refused to say what was bothering him. All Maya knew was that it was something to do with Connor. And yet, at school Connor didn\u2019t seem to be up to his usual bullying. If anything, he was more subdued. Everyone else at the school, though, that was a different story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya couldn\u2019t believe the way the principal was making up lies about Ethan. Embarrassing him in front of the whole school and even starting the new nickname for him: Ethan Pissingpants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethan seemed unwilling\u2014or unable\u2014to stand up for himself. It was his one real flaw. Maya, once again, turned her attention to trying to solve Ethan\u2019s problems. And Connor was the place to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya followed Connor around school, risking getting in trouble herself just to save her boyfriend. Connor wasn\u2019t doing anything obvious, though he did have the annoying habit of evading her whenever she thought she had him cornered. He went into the toilets on the second floor and didn\u2019t come out. Maya let a few other students come out before quickly ducking in and looking under the stalls. Empty. Same with the library. Maya was sure that the back door was locked, and yet Connor went in and never seemed to leave. But when she went in to check, he was nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya followed Connor home, tailing his crappy car into his rundown neighborhood. He went into a house that was presumably his, coming back out some time later. Maya ducked down as he passed by, then slipped out and followed him down a long, empty dirt road surrounded by woods. She stayed on the edge of the woods, ready to duck in at any second, but Connor never looked back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She lost him behind the fence to the old quarry and thought he\u2019d done one of his disappearing acts again when she saw a figure step out of the undergrowth way down below. It was Connor. He waded through the tall grass on the spit of land that stuck out in to the water-filled quarry, approaching a small crater. Maya hurried down the overgrown path that wound down to the bottom of the quarry. Every now and then she could part the leaves and catch a glimpse of Connor. His attention was held by something in a hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya reached the bottom and stepped quietly out of the undergrowth. But not quietly enough. Connor turned and raised himself to full height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDangerous for a girl like you to be out all alone with a guy like me,\u201d Connor sneered at her, his back to the crater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya summoned her courage and smiled at him. Bullies were only bullies because they were scared and lacked power. Dealing with him was just a matter of puffing herself up and looking big, like a cat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cConnor.\u201d She said, pausing and sizing him up. \u201cYou\u2019ve been up to something. My boyfriend says\u2026\u201d She shook her head. \u201cI\u2019m not sure what to believe but I want answers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She advanced and Connor took a step back, stumbling briefly as his foot landed on the crumbling lip of the small crater. He glanced down then back at Maya. Fear flitted across his features. That was different. A little thrill went through her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s in the crater?\u201d She asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She brushed past him to look down into the crater and saw a silver object embedded in the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat is that thing?\u201d Wonder crept across her features as she looked at him. \u201cEthan said you could\u2026turn into other people. Is that true?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s right,\u201d he said, eyes glinting as he loomed over her, trying to become the boss again. \u201cAnyone I\u2019ve touched.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her lips curled into a smile, dark and predatory. God, she wanted that power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, yeah? Show me,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He transformed, rising and growing taller, scrawnier, messy brown hair sprouting from his head. In seconds, Ethan was standing in front of her. Maya jumped back half a step, surprised, bringing her hands to her mouth with a little \u2018Oh!\u2019 of surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIs this the kind of dorky loser you go for?\u201d The new Ethan asked, spreading his skinny arms wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya laughed. \u201cOh my god. I didn\u2019t believe it but\u2026oh my god.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She wandered around him, examining him up and down. She was awestruck and amazed but not afraid. Despite Connor\u2019s bravado, there was Ethan\u2019s softness in his temporary eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHow?\u201d She asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNone of your business. But you should definitely try it out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He grabbed her arm suddenly. She felt something rushing through his fingers, filling her. Maya shot up six inches.
